My name is Alison Walter. I am a single mother with four children. My son, David, was in a terrible construction accident five years ago. He was a pipe layer and while working on a job, his legs were crushed by a excavator. For your information, an average excavator weighs twenty-four tons...48,000 pounds! My son, David, was twenty-eight years old and weighed 145 pounds. I will never forget seeing my son lying on that hospital table and hearing the examining doctor say to me, "Mrs. Walter, your son is very lucky." I looked at him, thinking my son is lucky; are you crazy? He then said, "In accidents like these, we are either cutting off both of their legs or they are dead." David and I pursued legal action. The accident was not only the cause of excavator operator error but, more importantly, the the conditions at his worksite were unsafe. My son had no way out of the ditch when the excavator bucket came down and was crushing his legs, he had no escape. Out of sheer luck...no I believe we were being guided by our angels; we called an attorney, Ben Wells. On our first meeting, David and I were understandably anxious and apprehensive. We were expecting to meet an attorney in a very expensive suit with an even more expensive demeanor. We were pleasantly surprised. Ben and Josh, his associate, were nothing like that. They were kind, caring and they actually listened when we talked. Believe this or not, Ben walked into the room in a flannel shirt and jeans! Four years later, my son won his case. Trust me, those four years were four of the hardest, most grueling years of our lives. It was emotionally, physically, psychologically and financially exhausting. During the trial, Ben left no stone unturned. He did his job to the utmost of excellence. His diligence, perseverance, dedication, sheer vitality and grit serve him well...he wins his cases! Importantly, I must add that during the entire time of the trial not one dime was paid to Ben and his legal team. In fact, Ben and Josh helped David financially. My son was not able to work due to his injuries, but they gave him jobs to help him financially and emotionally. Ben Wells helped my injured son. They helped him by whole heartedly representing him, supporting him and winning! There was another driving force for Ben in David's case. He did not want this to happen to another pipe layer's mother or loved one. Now because of him, a pipe layer's mother will never have to look at her son lying on a hospital bed, perhaps awaiting amputation of both legs or death. Safety measures were mandated and a law was created to protect against this...all thanks to Ben Wells and his team. Needless to say my son's life has taken a three hundred and sixty degree turn. Granted, David's legs will never be the same, but he was given an new chance in life by Ben and his team. He will never have to get into another ditch. He has been able to buy his own home and he is growing/doing a career he loves. I have to share this...on mother's day this year, I received an unconceivable gift from my David. He bought me a home on a lake...my dream home. This old, single mother now has a place she can forever call her home! I am so very grateful for Ben; he is my hero. I will always admire him for his courage, outstanding achievements and his noble qualities. He truly is amazing...brilliant, charming, amiable, and astute. He is a people's person with a beautiful heart. He is an angel; a light that we were given to guide us in the dark times of our lives. I will forever be indebted to Ben and his magnificent team. To say thank you is such an understatement. It falls so short of how I actually feel. My wish for this wonderful man and his team is this...may the most that they want in this life, be the very least that they receive.
Very sincerely yours, Alison Walter
