This place is absolutely gorgeous, dreamy, and magical. The creek, cedars, and the cottonwoods filled my heart to overflowing. The folks were very responsive to my questions, signs were very clear and made it easy to relax and feel at home. Also so many wood stoves for cozy fires on rainy days!
I would definitely recommend booking a stay here!
This is a charming place. We stayed in the Tieton unit, which was very new and clean. It’s very close to mount Rainier and what passes as a town. However, we had several issues.
First, we went in the summer and it was unbearably hot. These things happen, but what made it worse is that there was a heater/ac unit in the cabin but it did not work. In fact, it just constantly radiated out heat. I set it to Cool 60 degrees and even turned it off but it still kept radiating heat.
The unit is also absurdly dark. Impossible to read anything.
There is no tv or WIFI. I get what they are going for (a chance to unplug, which is fine), and this was clearly stated, but no WIFI turned out to be problematic. We were in a very unfamiliar area, and the cabin had no information about the area. No brochures, no maps, no directions or info about the mountain, no info about local shops, trails, restaurants, or attractions. No way to make reservations. Mt Rainier doesn’t allow visitors before 3pm without a reservation, so we were stuck in the cabin with no AC, no tv, no lights to read or play games, no WIFI to find something to do. I found it baffling you would not include local information. And this is a “spa”, but there were no spa services available, so that was very disappointing. How can you call yourself a spa but offer no spa services? So we had to run the fan to keep a little cool. But the fireplace seemed like it had not been cleaned and the fan sucked ash into the unit. My wife found the smell unbearable. There is no way to get in touch with the owners except by email. We decided to leave a day early since we were pretty miserable. I contacted the owners and they ignored us. Didn’t even offer an apology, let alone any compensation for our troubles. If the owners read this, if there is one takeaway, respond to your customers. An apology or a small offer if compensation would have gone a long way. Without that, we just felt ignored and disrespected. (Note, the owners have since reached out to me personally). Also, please consider AC and WIFI - or at least information, brochures, and maps of the area.
This is a lovely cabin on a great property if you like isolation. Mt Rainier is amazing, but remember to make reservations ahead of time. Despite its problems, I do recommend this unit, but not in the summer (unless they address the AC). Just plan your activities, and download your maps on your phone before you get there. And bring groceries from Seattle before you head down.
UPDATE: After receiving direct contact from the owners, they have addressed my concerns and that went a long way. I am grateful for them reaching out, and have updated my review and score.
