This is the start of a great trail that goes along a ridge above Arcata and comes out on the other side of town in Sunny Brae. It is open for Mountain bikes, horses and hikers. The first .6 miles are flat and follow Janes Creek. While you are near houses and an industrial area you would never know it. After .6 miles it begins to steepen as it begins to climb up the ridge. At about .75 miles there is a 20 ft long redwood bench that is lovely to sit and enjoy the solitude. I haven't gone past here in many years but the entire trail is amazing. I turn back here for a perfect 1.5 mile hike with my dog Ted.

Very nice trail. It's one end of the the Arcata ridge trail so you can walk all the way to Sunny Brea. It can be muddy if it's been raining. Beautiful metal sculpture bridges, nice redwood forests, occasional creeks. This end tends to have a decent amount of foot traffic so you'll see plenty of people too.

Beautiful trail in the redwood forest. Bring your own dog waist bags.
