If you value your time, energy, and money, avoid this office at all costs. I waited over FOUR HOURS to be told that I would need to be rescheduled because I would not be seen due them overbooking.
My first appointment at Western Dental was on 9/24 at 4:30 PM. The waiting room was packed with about 10 people, so I expected a bit of a wait. No big deal. They close at 6 PM, so I figured I’d be seen soon enough. The receptionists were polite and helped sort out my insurance, which was the only positive part of this experience. I finally got called back at 5:55 PM—literally minutes before closing—for a quick X-ray. My next appointment was scheduled for 10/9 at 3:30 PM for my cleaning.
The day before, I got a call asking if I could move my appointment up to 12:30 PM from 3:30 PM. I adjusted my work schedule to accommodate their request, thinking this might help them out. Big mistake.
I arrived on 10/9 at 12:25 PM, checked in, and noticed the same crowded waiting room. After waiting for two hours, I was finally called up and led to the back at 2:30 PM, where I was told to rinse and sit in a chair. On the wall, I saw a sign that said the estimated wait time in the chair would be another 45–60 minutes—on top of the two hours I’d already spent waiting in the lobby.
At this point, you’d think they'd prioritize me, right? Nope. Another hour passed, and then another. Finally, at 4:30 PM—FOUR HOURS after my scheduled appointment—someone came to quickly glance at my gums, review my X-rays, and tell me I had some cavities and needed additional treatment (all in about 5 minutes). I was then sent to the billing coordinator who informed me that the cleaning would be covered by insurance, but additional treatments would cost $400 out of pocket. I declined the extra procedures and simply asked to get the cleaning I had originally come for.
This is where things took a turn for the absurd. The coordinator told me they would have to schedule me another appointment for the cleaning because today was an appointment for the X-rays. I was baffled. I told her I was here for my cleaning today, not an X-ray or consultation—I had already done the X-rays at my previous visit. She then changed her reasoning, saying it was too late in the day and the hygienist had two more patients ahead of me and would be leaving at 6 PM when the office closed.
What? I had rearranged my work schedule to come in at 12:30 PM and waited over FOUR HOURS to be told I couldn’t even get the service I was scheduled for?
This office's scheduling system is clearly broken, and their staff cannot keep up with demand. So why do they overbook and then ask patients to adjust their schedules when they can’t manage their own? I had moved my work schedule around to make this appointment happen, only to have my entire afternoon wasted. There was no communication from anyone about how long the wait would be, or that I might not even be seen.
The staff were polite, but the way they handle patient care is completely unacceptable. They treat patients as if their time and concerns don’t matter. If you value your time, your health, and your sanity—do not waste them here.
My appointment was at 2:30pm. It’s now 4:51pm and I still haven’t seen the dentist yet. I was told they went on a lunch break for an hour, and I wonder why patients would be scheduled during their lunch break? Seems like they are under-staffed and over-worked, so I can understand it isn’t one person’s fault. However, the experience was tiring and unpleasant.
I will say the front desk staff were pretty nice.
Also, their phone lines don’t always work. I received text messages with a number to call since I needed to reschedule, but the number never actually connected to a real person. When I tried a different number and was able to reschedule it, I still got text reminders for the original date even though that wasn’t accurate anymore. It makes me question the quality of the systems.
That said, the dentist and hygienist and office manager were very nice.
