We have a lot of experience with home projects and are by no means contractor naive. I have to say that west mod was the most expensive contracting project for us but also the poorest outcome. We are prepared to pursue legal action for all the stress and issues they have caused us.
The total expense paid was 439,000 and that didn't include the slabs for outdoor kitchen countertop which we paid an additional 100,000 for (not even knowing the cost of the project didn't include the slab materials for the countertop). We felt they mislead us from the get go. Failing to mention that they don't include the cost on many materials - only the bare minimum such as concrete.
They often cut corners to get things done faster and then later it backfired and they had to do things over again. For example, tiles around the fireplace by the spa broke 3-4 times because of poor installation and cracking with the heat and they had to come back and redo it several times. They are currently still cracked and haven't addressed this.
We had numerous issues with the outdoor kitchen countertop bowing and sagging during the construction process. The way they structured and built the countertop was very amateur and again not something expected from a company charging this much and with such good reviews.
We noticed the sagging and bowing (see pictures) and had to call it out. When we reached out to them about this issue, they assured us they would repair it by reinforcing with a post AND steel plates. They inserted a post but never followed through on the steel plates....and they never informed us that they didn't install these. They told us there would be no further issues and that installing the slabs would he perfectly OK. And well, here we are.
After having paid approximately 100,000 for the slabs, the bowing and sagging continued now causing cracks in slab countertop and separating that will only worsen with time.... This is now a safety hazard and structural issue as we consulted with an architect who informed us this will eventually fall and collapse, causing even more issues. We are expecting them to give us a partial refund for their very costly amateur mistake!!! We are asking for this refund so that we can go ahead and fix it with a different contractor.
We even paid this separate architect for a second opinion after the project was done who said this was a mistake in structural engineering and architecture 101.
They inadvertently voided our warranty with our pentair pool heater because they used the wrong size connection from gas line to pool heater. Trying to get a hold of them after the project was done was at times a challenge.
We installed gates at the two side entrances to our backyard per code due to the pool. West mod didn't provide the footing for the installation of these gates which led to cracked tiles and issues that are still ongoing. We had to pay for this footing as an out of pocket expense and still had yet to be resolved by west mod.
They installed turf at the side yard and it ended up burning due to the sun. They asked us to tint our windows at our own expense and we refused to pay for this out of pocket. They ended up tinting and redoing the turf. Now we have darkness in one room of the home due to tinted windows. We're not happy with this modification.
We had to bring multiple other contractors to work on this outdoor project (for example slab install, audio/speakers) and it was unanimous that working with west mod included poor communication and lack of professionalism.
After having spent this exorbitant amount of money, we expected the work to be clean and seamless and this was not the case for us.
We feel the work was poor quality overall and sloppy and not worth the price we paid. They could have used better quality materials, been more forthcoming and transparent and handled communication more efficiently when it came to repairs.
We plan to report them to better business bureau and contractor state license board.
