This just wasn’t as good as we had hoped, especially given the price. It was high end prices, with okay bakery food.
It is entirely possible I got them on an off day—it was a Monday morning (8:30 AMish) and they are closed Sunday, which might have interfered with the baking schedule. We also ate at home, so the 10-minute walk in the humidity may have interfered with the textures.
The bread: it was super hard (but not crispy) on the outside, and kind of dry inside. It looked great, but felt old. Eating it just felt like a chore. There was SO much chewing, with none of the inner squishing I want from a baguette.
The croissant: Was decently buttery, but wasn’t crispy/flaky. It was not as good as the one from Cafe Hagen a few blocks away. It felt more… tough? The layers were kind of hard to rip apart. Maybe it was just old?
The cinnamon roll: the cinnamon roll was my fiancé’s favorite bit—it had a bit more flakiness and a nice sticky sugar sauce, and a tasty bit of pooled sugar that had baked to the pan on the the bottom. But it was full of raisins! I had to stop eating it because all I could taste was raisin.
Overall, we wanted to love this place but just felt like we had paid 9/10 prices for a 5/10 pastry experience.
