The owner and his son were very hospitable and gave a not only a comfortable atmosphere but also a sense of familial nostalgia. I tried the lamb mandi and it exceeded my expectations. The roast lamb was fall of the bone tender and not even gamey at all. It was well seasoned and spiced; you could just cut it with a spoon. The rice was perfumed with spices and a great fluffy mouthfeel. The raisins did take getting used too, but combined that with the crispy onions, it was a good compliment to the rice. The dish was generous albeit quite pricey; but that can be understood as the meat actually takes quite a bit of work and time to get to it's tenderness. It's served with a spicy Yemeni sauce and garlic sauce. Overall, it's a great addition of restaurants in Bakersfield and a great intro to Yemeni food. Definitely check this place out if you're into rice dishes.
