I have been shopping at this store on and off for many years. Not much has changed throughout the years and I am not sure if that is good or bad. The owner, who is also the cashier, is a super slow worker. He has absolutely no sense of urgency when there is a long line. He gabs endlessly with long time customers who come in and go. This last time I went, a lady asked if some fruit was fresh (which I think is a stupid question in the first place because no store owner will downgrade the product they sell) but his reply was very rude and condescending. The lady looked so embarrassed.

One random Wednesday amid Covid-19 lockdown, I wanted to try Armenian / Russian food so I headed to this Grocery store. I tried Alani ալանի, or dried apricots stuffed with honeyed walnuts, and some interesting Russian confectionaries. They looked like miniature paintings but inside were surprise after surprise. Zeytun also carried Armenian Dumplings (Mante մանթի), French beurre de sel, and Chocolate butter. And no, I don't mean Chocolate NUT butters like Nutella. I mean those sticks of butter you find by the pound in the refrigerated section. It was a pound of fresh butter, but Chocolate Butter. What did it taste like? Like the fillings of Truffles, of Chocolate buttercream condensed (un-whipped). They also carry delicious Lavash and other Armenian breads. Recommended for some fun times.
