I had the tasting menu. Bateau is of course famous for their wide menu of beef cuts, but since I was eating alone, most of them were too big. And it turns out (they don't tell you this) that the tasting menu gives you two different cuts, one more tender, the other more tasty.
Surprise! The non steak dishes were as good as the steak! Nice variety, nicely composed. They only have four red wines by the glass -- I wish they'd have more -- but I've got to say that the Cahors was one of the best I've ever had, and the St Émilion was also good.
This was one of the most unique steakhouse experience ever! Everything here is beef themed. Every available meat item is literally on the wall. Servers would cross off things as people order, so you never have to wonder if they have this or that and you feel slightly FOMO when someone beats you to it. It is overwhelming for someone that doesn't really understand a high level of every part of a whole cow. This cow part diagram is more comprehensive than your typical one (picture below). One advice I have is to order the amount of oz of steak your table wants to eat along with your appetizers and let the server know. You want to order and taste as many parts as possible and help tell them your preferences. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and patience with us as we were navigating the ordering process. If you're overwhelmed just ordered the tasting menu.
Food Journey: You start off with a complementary cured beef fat in style of lardo amuse-bouche. your appetizers, and letting your steak rest, indulge on the steak and finished off with dessert and another complementary dehydrated chocolate-mint meringue with the bill. The team here is amazing! This was a memorable journey and I highly recommended if you want to celebrate a special occasion :)
The Bateau Salad was good, Beef tartare was a flavor bomb with the Ikura (Salmon Roe) and do order more crackers, frites were hand cut and wished we got more garlic aioli, and the mushroom was charred and even my friend who cannot usually handle the mushroom texture was able to eat it. The Tallow cake sounds Sus, but you should definitely get it as it has great contrast and nothing too crazy.
We got 4 steaks all medium rare, and we liked them in this order. The variety is huge and the menu changes everyday. Bavette (21+), Petite Top Round (21+), Chuck Chain (21+), and Ranch (100+ dry age). You can definitely taste the beef, and the 126 days dry age has a good moldy taste to it. (July 2024)
