I've been a customer of Berkey Engineering, Inc (hereafter B.E.) now for 10 years, since 2002.
B.E. is a small engineering business of about 5 staff (as of this review) with one engineer, Cliff Berkey. Cliff is hands down the best engineer for pole buildings that you will find. As a brother and a dependant customer, I have a close relationship with Cliff and would not take my engineering needs anywhere else.
Prices are extremely reasonable, and believe me, he does not favor one "good" customer over the next "good" customer. He is professional in his communications. His office's service is fast and efficient. Anybody that has sought for these services from other firms know without a doubt how reasonable B.E.'s prices are.
The actual engineering is plain and simple, and readable for just about anyone; a HUGE boon to B.E. is that designs will be tailored to specific styles of construction -- builders simply do not all build in one way: Some use hangers, some use blocks, some use manufactured trusses, some want truss design (like me, to build trusses on-site!). Some want posts on 8', 10', 12' bays, some want 16', 20', even 25' bays between trusses. Some use commercial girts, some use vertical girts. B.E. understand these things and will tailor plans to your style! Simply beautiful.
Even for the newcomer, these plans are structured on the pages in such a way that is consistent with the construction phases of the building process. This is especially noticeable with detail and section call outs.
I have seen Cliff get so many builders and property owners out of jambs by submitting absolutely "genius" solutions. This is one company you want to have on your side! I can tell you from not only being a customer of Cliff's but also having worked in his office and personally dealing with his customers on the phone, that there are some builders and property owners who have not been honest with Cliff nor the building authorities, and they only hurt themselves in their foolishness. Engineer's provide official, last-word solutions for projects that must be assembled according to the engineer's specs, not to some shoddy builder's carelessness brought on by some blatant disregard and antipathy for an inspector, and ultimately the very customers they build for.
B.E. is definitely THE engineer you can count on to provide last-word solutions for your projects and snags. I know I can depend on Cliff to represent me better than any other engineer in the field, and I'll let my money do the talking -- I won't take it anywhere else.
