I have been coming to Don Juan's on occasion for the past 10 years.
I can say with confidence I will not be back.
First off, I was served co.imentary chips and salsa. I noticed they were very scarce with the chips. It was a very small handful. The smallest amount I have ever been served anywhere.
When the waitress noticed I had finished them, she asked me if I would like more chips. I said yes, and received another basket, still small by any standards, but a little bigger than the first one.
When my bill arrived, I had been charged 5$ for the chip refill. I would not have gotten more chips if the waitress had informed me that I would be charged 5$ for them.
If everything else was stellar, I would not leave a negative review. However in stark contrast to the chips, the nacho plate is HUGE, like enough to feed 10 people. It seems like the quality of the meat has gone way down over the years.
I would be much happier with a portion 25% the size, x2 the quality, and free chips. For the same price.
Do not let the strip mall exterior fool you. This is good Mexican food. The guacamole is great, and the beef burrito is excellent. The chips and salsa are tasty and the margaritas are excellent.
It's the best Mexican food I've found in Thurston county.
