I ( arthur robertson) found Austin by google search for local drummers. My plan was to move my attention from African drumming to Kit drumming and formal lessons. I was pleasantly surprised when i saw Austin's internet page that he is both a "western" kit drummer but also hand drumming tabla ,djembe, and other hand drums. Wow i thought he's my guy. So i gave him a call and off we went lessons weekly, for past six months. I'm a believer in one to one lessons and Austin is great. He has a really nice studio in Thousand Oaks, where he has two full drum kits, practice pads, hand drums , and more. I told him i wanted it all. Learn to read drum music, learn percussion in general , and drum kit. He was happy and ready to get me on my way. He always makes me feel comfortable (despite my lack of practice at times), has new things for us to explore, hand outs, references , always going back to basics and not rushing the process. It takes time and practice to move forward. Anyways he's a great teacher , a dedicated teacher , with all the right attributes. Yeah Austin. Oh and by the way I'm 68 years old and still learning .
