I was new to the home and my first electric bill prompted me to get solar sooner than later. The NRG sales rep helped me size the system based on all of my computers, AC system, etc. We selected batteries since NEM 3.0 limits the value of exported power. I spent the extra to have a full backup as well.
We didn't even discuss SGIP during the sales process so I was pleasantly surprised when their activations manager worked with me on the SGIP application. It required quite a few iterations and they stuck with me until it was approved 2 months after the project was otherwise complete and paid for.
BUYER BEWARE!!! ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE PUSHING HOMEOWNERS TO DO SOLAR IN CALIFORNIA!!! The sales isnt the issue. It is the installation as well as the switch and bait after you purchase that is the problem with NRG Clean Power. Not even 5 years and we have discovered the installation has compromised our roof. Lavk if adequate sealant with ovrrsized screws to install, miscalculations on measuring so we had extra holes on our roof. When purchased the solar we asked how much it would cost to remove panels and reinstall if we ever needed our roof replaced. We were told during negotiations 800$. We took it as 800$ off and 800$ to put back on! Well I guess since we outright purchased in full and no interest was made off us, we were now told 10,000$. The electrician used screws that went out over an inch through the roof! We saw he tried to do that to the side of the house and stopped him because we knew they were too long ( guess you need to watcg everything they do bc they just slap anything there way). We provided him with the appropriate screws for the side of the house since he didnt have them. But we apparently he did it to the roof using too long of screws! We had other solar companys tell us that isnt how it is installed and it isnt installed properly! Certain areas required gluing so it wouldn't comprise our roof!!! Instead, they optes for oversized screws! NRG attempted to say the nails they did see was the cause of our damage. Those were from shingles and protected by shingles, whereas theres went through shingles with no additional seals! They offered to send a roofer out to inspect at our expense. Why pay them when we had three separate roofing companies come give us FREE QUOTES and point out the problems which were due to the solar?! Even our home owners insurance adjustor outright said the solar panels werent installed properly. They initially offered 400$ for the plywood replacement but not for the shingles. The lowest estimate we received for the damages that we do see right now for the repairs we were estimated at 1000$. Approximately 2'x4' was chalked out by one of the roofers stating that area was so compromised someone could fall through the roof. Our roof has presidential shingles and was installed apparently right before we moved in 17 years ago. We had it inspected before we moved in and were told it was in outstanding shape and in excellent shape. NRG prior to installation, also had it inspected as well, and he too said it was in excellent condition since the presidential roofs should last 50 years. We asked for their insurance information and they have yet to provide it to us! We are currently looking into the government regulators as well as a civil attorney since Shelley feels like we are a bother!! WE CLEARLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!!
