Almost left our items and walked out after being repeatedly ignored at the checkout. Apparently me and my wife weren't white enough to be considered worthy of help, or even a simple acknowledgement that we were waiting to pay...or that we were even in the store for that matter.
Extra cashier help was eventually called out and she immediately grabbed the first white lady she sees, so we walked around to the other side hoping to be noticed. Adding insult to injury, the customer who had cut in front of us was trying to wave another guy in after she was finished paying, telling the cashier that he had been patiently waiting.
It's not the first time we've been discriminated against and it won't be the last. We just won't shop at this Pier 1 anymore.
