Ordered 2 tri tip salads and a beef rib. Asked for the meat to be on the side. It was cold and dry more like brisket than tri tip. Not fresh. Sad because I time my road trip to pick up Salty BBQ and been doing this for years this for years first time disappointed in the meat. Lady at the counter didn’t care.
Side note. The rib was very tasty.
We travel full time across the country, and BBQ is kinda our thing, we smoke our own, but also go to local BBQ joints in every town we stay in. Sadly, CA BBQ had left us a bit disappointed. We found ourselves in Bakersfield longer than expected, so we gave CA BBQ another shot at Salty’s, and we were blown away by Salty’s. From the train car dining to the open pit out front where you can watch the pit master do his thing (so sorry I don’t have his name, because he deserves recognition)
By chance, the customer behind us at the counter having lunch with his family, turned out to be Jeff (the owner). After chatting a few minutes, we knew this was more than just BBQ, it a passion, a love for smoking meat and beyond that, there’s just something about Jeff and the crew that makes you feel at home.
Attached image is the Salty’s Special, which I had and enjoyed every bite, and yes, that’s what Guy ate when Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives were there.
Worth noting, the wife grew up in Texas, so she is pretty particular on what a brisket should or should not be, and she was very pleased with Salty’s
If you’re in Bakersfield, GO TO SALTY’S, you will not be disappointed!!
