I brought my daughter to see Alison because at almost 7 years old, we noticed that her letter R's still sounded like W's and it was not improving on its own. Alison performed a diagnosis and was able to determine that my daughter had a severe tongue tie that was impacting her tongue's range of motion.
She came up with a treatment plan that would teach her how to use her tongue and also included tongue tie release surgery. Keep in mind that this is not a short process. I originally guessed that it would be, but I was very mistaken. My daughter had to learn how to improve her tongue's range of motion (which took months), get the surgery, then relearn how to speak with the new range of motion. The treatment plan required a lot of time and patience practicing with my daughter every week.
My daughter finally completed the program and her R's sound perfect! All in, it took a little over a year. I'm glad we found Alison because she is a true expert with speech pathology and won't waste your time. She's super friendly and the program is fun for the kids.
If your kid is having speech issues, I would highly recommend giving Alison a call. You'll be glad you did.
