If you love historic buildings this is your place! Most of the interior appears to be original to the building. We stayed in room 19 and loved the windows and kitchen! Things to be aware of: There is no elevator and the stairs to the third floor are no joke! It's not terrible if you are in fairly good shape, though, and I loved the old banister and the view as I climbed and descended the stairs. The walls are also pretty thin, so bring a fan or something to help mute any neighbors you may have close to your room. We had one neighbor who we never heard and another who we could clearly hear through the opposite wall. The fan helped a lot. The entire suite was very clean and the entire staff was very friendly. The location is terrific. As of this weekend, there isn't any air conditioning in the rooms, which isn't bad in the spring, but may be an issue in the summer. Again, a fan might help. I love this hotel and would definately be willing to stay again. My husband, who is a very practical kind of soul would not. The value of this as a historic building truly outweighed any minor discomforts. It also appeared that they will be doing some renovations soon, according to a small sign we saw, so some of those minor inconveniences may change this year.

Quirky historic hotel. Clean, spacious, great location, and definitely the right price. As others have said, it's got a lot of stairs and they're the only way up to the rooms. One of the ladies in the lobby, which doubles as a wonderful indigenous people gallery, said there was a new owner recently so they've been upgrading. Some things looked different from photos I saw in other reviews from last year. For example, the carpets have been changed in the stairways and common space, my room had a brand new toilet and an obviously brand new sink and vanity. Older things in the space show their age. My tub dripped and I had standing water in the tub when I arrived because the diverter is a little tricky. Stayed during some of the best weather of the year so I didn't need climate control, but it seemed lacking. Overall, I had a wonderful visit. Only stayed a day and don't think I had any neighbors.

room was fine & comfortable, rm 15 deck view was really good...private. Staff lady at the desk was very nice. Stairs were challenging, downright hazardous...the carpeting design creats an optical illusian that you're not sure of your next step...wife fell on them twice...injured ankle on the second fall, bruised, swollen & painful. use the handrail!!
