Dropped my package off here. I waited until after the holidays so that it would not get lost. The only business I regularly do at UPS is usually Amazon returns. Unfortunately, I was not aware that you could buy insurance on your packages.
My package was a mirrorless camera ($2k+) that I was shipping to canon for a button to be repaired. I went into the UPS store multiple times and called to verify where my package was, they assured me that weather was delaying packages and that it was on it's way. It was last scanned in Sylmar, CA 10 days after my ship date. After 2 weeks of it not being scanned, I opened a claim. However, the claim department stated I could not file the claim and the store itself had to file it. I will say that the manager was able to do this quickly for me. He told me that sometimes it gets stuck on the conveyer belt and if we opened a claim they'd be able to go there and look at the belts. The manager also told me that I sign documentation that waives my right to get insurance. I strongly feel that the customer service person who took my package, should ASK if I want insurance on the item. I had to provide a Canon code to the associate, there is no way he did not know it was a high value item.
I understand there is a small screen you sign. But with little writing, small words, and a huge line behind you - does anyone read every word of this? So yes, legally my fault - but ethically shame on UPS.
I had to repeatedly contact the claims department because they gave me NO information. One day I randomly was approved for $100, with no update on my package. I contacted again and they had me fill out my product information again. They quickly told me after my package was not found. I asked for information on what they did for my package or if there was any documentation that they looked for it, they ignored my response and informed me that 20 million packages go through UPS and that sometimes packages get lost. Don't they scan packages during each delivery stop or movement? It has now been two months. I am so frustrated and upset, I will never use UPS again.
