Seventh store visited in the mall, seventh time a cashier asks me to join their loyalty program. Fair enough, but we all know how these programs work. So I asked if it would get me a discount on my first purchase. And as soon as I did, the sales associate’s entire demeanour shifted—at the snap of a finger. She became rude, snippy, and dismissive. I left the store wondering what the heck I did wrong.
Another associate was checking on something in the back for me. I waited, waited, waited… and nothing. Eventually, I poked my head back there myself and asked if he was having any luck, and the guy, apologetic though he was, admitted, flat out, that he had forgot.
I don’t usually go out of my way to comment, but when an experience sits with me in my bones, I figure I might as well.
