I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to attend Paul's yoga class when I stayed at La Casa Del Zorro last weekend. Paul was a very welcoming yoga teacher and made us all feel very welcomed in his class. I didn't have a yoga mat or equipment with me, so Paul made sure that I had everything that I needed during class. He spent the first part of class teaching us breathing techniques that I have used many times after his class.
Paul's class was challenging to me since I don't practice yoga as often as I'd like to. Paul gave us modifications to try if we couldn't do the more challenging poses. He was gentle, encouraging and accepted people for where they were in their yoga abilities. He also made the class fun and had a good sense of humor.
I came away from the class feeling so much better! I wish that I lived closer to Borrego Springs because I would attend Paul's classes on a regular basis! I'd love to attend one of his yoga retreats someday. Paul was by far one of the very best yoga teachers! Not only was he a great teacher, he was a very nice and kind person!
I first attended one of Paul’s yoga classes at La Casa del Zorro while staying at the resort about 6 months ago. My expectations were pretty low, as some other hotel yoga classes I’ve attended have seemed like an afterthought, one time we were put into a spare banquet room off of the hotel lobby, not a dedicated space for yoga. This class at La Casa del Zorro, however, far exceeded anything I could have expected.
First off, I entered a beautiful yoga studio that is pristinely clean, very peaceful, having a very comfortable temperature even when it’s hot outside, with a closet full of mats, blocks, straps, and everything I’d need for my session.
Paul Penners is the yoga teacher at the resort, and his warmth and welcoming attitude to students of all levels made me instantly comfortable at my first class. I saw him help some beginners set up their mats, which was very kind. He uses some humor during the class which makes yoga fun for anyone who wants to try it for the first time. And as a regular yoga student, I was very challenged by his flows, and I loved the meditation time at the end of the class.
I recently had the pleasure of attending Paul’s 4-day yoga and meditation retreat at La Casa del Zorro. I cannot say enough about how deep into my yoga practice Paul led me. The group of about 10 students at the retreat were of widely varying levels of experience and abilities. One person was only able to sit in a chair during the classes due to some physical limitations, and Paul was endlessly accommodating to whatever needs any of the students had. He expertly shifted from intensely serious to lightheartedly funny. We laughed, we did challenging yoga flows twice daily, we meditated for long periods of time, we did journaling together, we learned about chanting, and we spent some time hiking in the beautiful Anza Borrego desert. Experts to beginners would find this retreat very satisfying and educational, I loved it!
