My wife and I held a reception here on one of the busiest possible days in our downtown area, Hoopfest. What could have been chaotic and maddening went over smoothly as the guests started rolling in through the front door. We opted for a fajita bar, and the food was great! Jenny and Samantha kept an eye on Dawn and I ...and made sure we had drinks in our hands when necessary! Katie, our event coordinator handled all of our questions leading up to the reception.
Extra kudos go out to Jenny, who hosted and served for us like a star. A true professional and she made the afternoon completely manageable and kept the stress to a minimum. We loved her suggestion of the Schilling Blackberry-Pear Cider. We got a lot of compliments about her and the venue all evening and hopefully she got to hear many herself!
I'll start by saying I don't often leave reviews and I certainly am surprised that I have to write this one, but the experience was overall not good, in many ways - so here we go..
Katie Wade was the best as far as responding to my inquiry quickly, promptness of sending over the estimate, and confirming the date upon payment.
Everything thereafter was not so great.
Food arrived an hour early. I suppose not a huge deal but noticeable.
The food itself is where I was most surprised and disappointed. The salmon was extremely dry, with the skin on. The chicken saltimbocca was also very dry. The chicken itself had no flavor except for the sage leaf left inside which was overpowering.
The confit potatoes were cooked very well, but again, no flavor or seasoning at all.
The strawberry feta spinach salad was supposed to have feta and almonds, but all we got was spinach and strawberries, and the salad was way over dressed to where it was almost inedible because the sweet vinegarrete was literally all you could taste.
The assortment of "mini desserts" were dreadful and clearly previously frozen items... except for the cookies which also seemed store bought...
The agreement was that catering was to pick up at 6:30pm as our Executive meeting ended at 7pm. My front desk gal told me that Steven said he would be back after 7pm. I called Steven and touched base, he said coming back at 6:30pm was fine. I got a text at 6:45 saying he was sorry and got caught up so he would be there in 15 minutes. He arrive at 7:10. He did clean up and pack up quickly, which was greatly appreciated. After a long day of work, staying later to wait wasn't ideal.
I was asked by Steven how everything was. I told him exactly what I have wrote in this review. No, I wasn't a "Karen" about it. I simply said if I could speak freely, that I was highly disappointed and heard the same thing from other attendees.
Upon discussing this with a colleague of mine, I was informed that she had also had a bad experience the last time she used Nectar for another corporate meeting of ours and that it seems like over time, Nectar has lost its quality.
Unfortunately, I don't think we will be using them again. Catering is all about the quality of food and service - Both of those were lacking sorely, except for getting my estimate back quickly and them taking payment in advance to secure the date.
